My new year started with a shooting star. And it did turn out to be a good year. On the last day of 2013 I had homemade pancakes with fresh strawberries for breakfast, on the other side of the world, overlooking the waters of Auckland Harbour through the high-rises. Granted, when I saw that shooting star I didn’t necessarily think that this is where I was going to end up, but it’s quite a good place to be. But travelling to New Zealand wasn’t the only thing that made my year a good one. There were trips to Berlin, weekends in Cowal, a week in Gdansk, and a trip to Perth (in Australia, that is). Countless nights out with drunken banter. Soaking up the sun, or watching the rain out of the window with a hot cup of tea in my hands. And sharing some very special moments with some very special people at a couple of weddings. But all it comes down to are the people that made this year so perfect. People I love and care for, my friends and family. I am thinking here of “dinner” parties with Mark and Heather (thanks for the tea, Heather ;), taking in the views of Cowal with Jamie’s family, philosophising with the boys on a Friday evening/Saturday afternoon/any other time of the day or week that seemed appropriate, sampling micro-breweries in Fremantle with Cailean and his lovely wife, Thai massages (honestly, just massages!) with the beautiful Ms Matthies, precious family time in Gdansk, (surprise) visits from Germany to send me off to New Zealand, sharing the beauty of a rainy afternoon in Scotland with my Schwesterherz and Schwagerherz, and finally making new friends on the other side of the world. So I will be thinking of you, my dear friends, when I am raising my glass to the old year and hope that you have many good reasons to think ” it was a very good year”. Now, get your red knickers on, finish that bowl of lentils, and fill up the drams! Happy New Year everyone! xxx

Indeed. All the best everyone!
